Berlin, Germany –The historic Tempelhof Airfield Circuit played the perfect host for Rounds 9 & 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World. The 2024 Berlin E-Prix was action-packed, captivating audiences worldwide. With solid qualifications and a podium on race 1 Saturday, DS PENSKE reaffirmed its status as a force to be reckoned with in the all-electric single-seater series.
Round 9 – For DS PENSKE and its partner DS Automobiles, Saturday got off to an impressive start with strong qualifying sessions. Having both car move through to the duels by going third-quickest in their respective qualifying groups, Stoffel Vandoorne eventually took second on the grid just ahead of his French team mate JEV in third.
During the race, Vergne’s unwavering focus and exceptional skill were on full display as he fended off multiple challenges and maintained a commanding presence on the track, even amidst two safety car periods. His stellar performance culminated in an impressive second-place finish, his 35th career podium.
Meanwhile, Vandoorne faced adversity after being shuffled back in a crowded group, finding himself stuck behind an incident that dropped him to 18th position. Undeterred, Vandoorne showcased resilience and determination, executing a brilliant recovery drive to claim a remarkable seventh position, maximizing crucial points for the team.
Round 10: The second race mirrored the Saturday’s event, marked by a flurry of overtakes, multiple incidents and the deployment of the Safety Car on two occasions.
Despite sustaining damage to his DS E-TENSE FE-23 from a collision, JEV pushed relentlessly to break into the top 10. His perserverance paid off as he clinched the final point for 10th place at the race’s conclusion.
However, Sunday’s race posed significant challenges for Stoffel Vandoorne. Despite his determined efforts amidst the midfield battles, the Belgian driver was forced to pit midway through the race following a skirmish with another competitor. This incident dashed Vandoorne’s hopes of capitalizing on his promising performance.
With six races remaining in Season 10, the saga continues for the DS PENSKE squad in their pursuit of podium positions in Teams’ . The upcoming events of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship are set to unfold in Shanghai, China, on May 25-26.
