DS PENSKE heads back to China aiming to build on Sanya momentum at Shanghai double-header
Shanghai, China – After securing a valuable double points finish in Sanya, DS PENSKE returns to China this weekend for Rounds 12 and 13 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship at the Shanghai International Circuit.
The championship’s third visit to the permanent Shanghai venue promises another demanding challenge, with the 3.051 km circuit featuring 12 turns and several heavy braking zones that create overtaking opportunities while placing a premium on energy management and race strategy. Adding another layer of complexity, changing weather conditions and the threat of storms throughout the weekend could significantly influence both qualifying and race outcomes.
Saturday’s opening race will also feature the return of Formula E’s Pit Boost, requiring teams to balance outright pace with precise strategy before Sunday’s race reverts to the traditional format.
Fresh from an encouraging weekend in Sanya, where both Maximilian Günther and Taylor Barnard scored valuable championship points, DS PENSKE arrives in Shanghai determined to maintain its positive momentum during the second and final Chinese event of the season.
The Shanghai International Circuit also holds special memories for the team. In 2025, Maximilian Günther delivered a commanding performance by claiming pole position before converting it into victory, underlining the competitiveness of the DS E-TENSE FE25 package on the fast and technical layout.
This weekend also marks an important milestone for DS Automobiles, as the French manufacturer celebrates its 150th Formula E start. A strong result—and ideally another podium finish—would provide the perfect way to commemorate this landmark achievement.
Don’t miss the action – the race will start at 3:05pm local time this Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th of July, 2026.
Maximilian Günther – DS PENSKE driver
‘Happy to be back racing in Shanghai. It’s a circuit that holds great memories for me from last season, where we secured pole position and a race win as part of the team’s first-ever one-two finish. The track is fast and flowing, with several good overtaking opportunities, making it one I really enjoy driving. We arrive in Shanghai with some positive momentum from the Sanya race and are focused on putting together a strong weekend.’
Taylor Barnard – DS PENSKE Driver
‘Leaving Sanya with more points was encouraging for the whole team, and now we have another opportunity to keep building. A double-header always offers plenty of opportunities, but consistency is key. Shanghai is a fast, technical circuit and with Pit Boost returning on Saturday, strategy will be more important than ever. We’ll be aiming to maximise both races.’
