DS PENSKE Heads to Madrid for Historic First Formula E Race at Jarama
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship arrives in Spain for the first time as Madrid hosts Round 6 of Season 12 at the iconic Circuito de Jarama. The 3.934-kilometre circuit, featuring 14 turns, will stage Saturday’s race at 15:05 local time, marking a historic debut for Formula E at one of Spain’s most renowned motorsport venues.
After five races across three continents, the championship now moves to Europe, with Madrid opening the European leg of the calendar ahead of races in Berlin and Monaco scheduled for May 2026.
Inaugurated in 1967, Jarama has hosted numerous international motorsport events and remains a landmark venue in Spanish racing history. Known for its technical layout, elevation changes and flowing sequences of corners, the circuit is expected to provide a demanding challenge for drivers while delivering exciting on-track action.
Spain’s passionate motorsport fans are expected to turn out in large numbers, with packed grandstands anticipated as Formula E makes its long-awaited debut in the Spanish capital.
DS PENSKE drivers Maximilian Günther and Taylor Barnard have been working intensively with the team in preparation for the Madrid E-Prix. After a challenging start to the season, both drivers are determined to turn the momentum around and extract the full potential of the DS E-TENSE FE25 on the technical Jarama layout. With valuable championship points at stake, the team heads into the European leg focused on delivering a strong collective performance and starting the climb back toward the top of the standings.
Saturday’s race will also feature the Pit Boost, Formula E’s rapid mid-race charging technology, adding an additional strategic element as teams balance energy management and track position throughout the event.
Following the race, the action will continue on Sunday with the second and final Rookie Test day of the season. DS PENSKE will field Daniil Kvyat and Nikita Bedrin, who will take the wheel of the DS E-TENSE FE25 to collect valuable data during the dedicated testing session.
Don’t miss the action – the race will start at 3:05pm local time this Saturday 21st March, 2026.
Maximilian Günther – DS PENSKE driver
‘Great to be back racing in Europe, even more so for the first ever Madrid E-Prix. It’s a brilliant, old-school track – Fast, camber, elevation changes, everything a racing driver wants. We prepared well for the pit boost race here and arrive with good momentum on the performance side. I can’t wait to go out on track and deliver our very best this weekend.’
Taylor Barnard – DS PENSKE Driver
‘It’s great to race in front of Spanish fans for the first time this season. We know how passionate they are about motorsport. Jarama is a demanding and technical track, which should make it a very interesting weekend for us.
