After visiting eight countries on five continents, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship heads to North America for the 12th round of the highly competitive Season 9. This weekend’s race will mark the first time the Championship competes in Portland, Oregon, with this new circuit providing an equal challenge to all of the teams. South of the Columbia River, the Portland International Raceway will see the United States debut of the GEN3 cars on Saturday, June 24th at 5pm (local time).
The first 11 rounds of the season have been incredibly exciting and the entire DS PENSKE Team arrives on their home turf determined to have a very strong showing. With five races to go, the Team has worked tirelessly in the days since returning from Jakarta. The crew has meticulously prepared each component of the car hoping to provide the best possible chance to Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Éric Vergne to win. The Frenchman sits 5th in the Drivers’ Championship with only 37 points separating him from the leader. Both DS PENSKE drivers are determined to fight hard in front of the Team’s home crowd.
Stoffel Vandoorne, reigning Formula E world champion
‘I am thrilled to be here, a new city, a new track once again!
Portland should be a great and exciting challenge, I have spent a lot of time in the simulator preparing for this new circuit and I am looking forward to this weekend. As we are almost at the end of this season, 5 races to go, I want to be more aggressive to score as many points as possible and bring the Team to the front row.’
Jean-Eric Vergne, Formula E Champion in 2018 and 2019
‘It’s the first time for everyone to compete here around the Portland International Raceway and the layout of the track will make the race very interesting in terms of strategy because of its very long straight lines. The track looks great in the simulator, we have worked hard with the team and, no matter the conditions we face, I am going to push as much as I possibly can to get as many points as possible, and bring the trophy home.’
