DS PENSKE finished today’s Jakarta E-Prix with Stoffel Vandoorne in ninth and Jean Eric Vergne in 16th position. Yesterday, the team celebrated a double points finish, with a strong performance from both Stoffel and JEV to cross the line P4 and P5.

At yesterday’s race, Stoffel had a strong start and gained position from P5 up to P2. Ultimately, his race ended in a respectable fourth place. Starting from fourth on the dirty side of the track, JEV defended well in hot conditions to finish in fifth.

For the second race today, which was longer and more energy-sensitive, we were in line to fight for a podium and a double points finish. Stoffel started in P5 and had another great start, with the pace to match the front of the pack. JEV started from P9, also with a competitive set-up. However, damage to both cars by our competitors meant we couldn’t achieve the maximum result possible. Stoffel’s contact gave him suspension damage and he battled to bring the car home in P9. Front wing damage for JEV put him in P16.

Today’s race marked the remarkable celebration of the 100th race of DS performance. The manufacturer has racked up four championship titles (including both teams’ and drivers’ titles), 16 victories, 47 podiums and 22 pole positions to its name. To celebrate this milestone, the team ran the DS E TENSE FE23 in a specially-created livery and JEV wore a commemorative helmet design.

The strong qualifying sessions over the race weekend leave Team wanting more, DS PENSKE is firmly in the top five and just 32 points off third place. The squad looks forward to heading to The Portland International Raceway, Oregon, for Round 12 and the inaugural Southwire Portland E-Prix on June 24, 2023. Anything can happen and the Team will keep pushing.

Stoffel Vandoorne, reigning Formula E world champion

‘Tricky day with a tricky result. It felt like we deserved at least a podium today. It felt like that was available. We had a good start again, and gained one position. Then, we ran the attack modes. We did quite ok, even though it was hard to find the right gaps. But I think as a team we did fairly good. We got stuck behind Mitch at some point who was down on energy, but there wasn’t really a way past as I lacked some confidence in the brakes today. Then, I got overtaken and had a little touch, so the steering wheel was bent for the last seven or eight laps. I just had to kind of hang on and try and bring the car home. So P9, two points, but it should have been a lot more today.’

 Jean-Eric Vergne, Formula E Champion in 2018 and 2019

‘Today was a race to forget. I had my front wing broken so then frankly there wasn’t not much I could lose as I had to stop and change my front wing. From there my race was basically over. Very frustrating. We have quite a lot of work to do. Well done to Maserati for their double poles and win today. They run the same powertrain, luckily that’s a good sign that we can do better than we have been. Now, it’s on to the next one.’
