• Eventful race limits opportunities for Jean-Éric Vergne and Maximilian Günther to fully capitalise on their potential

• DS PENSKE retains fourth place in the teams’ standings, just four points from the provisional podium

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship made a thrilling return to Miami this Saturday for Round 5, as the teams raced on one the most technically demanding venue of the calendar, the Homestead-Miami Speedway. Known for its high-speed straights and intricate infield sections, the Florida-based track provided an exciting challenge for teams and drivers alike.

The DS PENSKE team arrived in Miami well prepared with determination and a clear objective: to extract maximum performance from the fast, energy-demanding layout. Free Practice sessions proved valuable, with engineers and drivers working in sync to gather crucial data and fine-tune race strategies.

Despite the team’s thorough preparation, qualifying sessions were challenging. Jean-Éric Vergne secured P17 on the grid, while teammate Maximilian Günther faced similar struggles, starting from P22.

The race itself offered is own set of twist. Both drivers showed strong race craft with JEV succeeding to make 10 positions and MAX 11 positions before racing events shaped the final outcome.

On lap 20, Maximilian was involved in a multi-car incident that brought out a red flag. The German driver’s momentum was briefly halted but he rejoined the race for the restart and battle through the field to finish 17th.

Teammate Jean-Éric Vergne had been running in ninth and well positioned for a points finish. Unfortunately, the red flag disrupted his strategy, being unable to fully utilize his second Attack Mode. Despite the setback, he delivered a resilient drive to finish 12th.
DS PENSKE retains fourth place in the teams’ standings—just four points from the provisional podium.

The Electric grid heads to the glamorous streets of Monaco for a double header on May 3rd and 4th. As racing returns to the heart of the Principality, the team is fired up and ready to chase strong results at one of the most legendary venues in motorsport.

Jean-Éric Vergne, DS PENSKE Driver – 2018 & 2019 Formula E Champion

‘It was an unlucky race for us. I think we had a very good car. I was able to make my way back up the leaderboard, despite making a small mistake on the grass. When it was time to activate my second Attack Mode, I was in a strong position to score points. Unfortunately, the red flag completely ruined my chances of finishing in the top 10. That’s a real shame, but we have to focus on the positive. Our race pace has become stronger, and from now on we will be fully concentrated on Monaco!’.

Maximilian Günther – DS PENSKE driver

‘We had a very difficult weekend. Following a promising first practice session, we didn’t manage to find a good performance window on race day. I‘ve got to say that the surface was very abrasive and we suffered because of that. Qualifying didn’t match our expectations but we were still determined to run a good race with an intelligent strategy and optimal energy saving. That mission was nearly accomplished as we were close to the points before the incident that I was involved in. At the chicane, I was completely sandwiched, which really compromised the rest of my race.”
