After a superb first victory of the Season in Hyderabad, India, the DS PENSKE squad will be aiming to continue this strong momentum in South Africa. Against the spectacular backdrop of Table Mountain, Cape Town will be the first sub-Saharan city to host a Formula e race in history.  Round 5 will take place on Saturday 25th February at 16:04 local time.

Between the mountains and the sea, with a brand-new circuit, Cape Town will be one of the most visually stunning races of the calendar and, most importantly, the fastest track of the season. With straight lines and fast corners, the track is expected to be a great challenge for energy management for all competitors.

After bringing home the team’s first double points of the season in India, DS PENSKE has kept working around the clock to continue to gain learnings and work to put the drivers, Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Éric Vergne, in the best position to fight for wins. The team is poised for action this weekend!

With motorsport ranking the second most popular sport in the country, large numbers of TV viewers and local fans are expected to attend the maiden Cape Town race to show support to the drivers – particularly reigning world champion Stoffel Vandoorne, recently voted their favourite driver in the paddock.

Stoffel Vandoorne, reigning Formula E world champion

I’m very excited to be here for the first race in South Africa. It’s our second brand new circuit in two weeks, and we’ve worked very hard between Hyderabad and here. With the flowing lines, it is going to be a true test for the Gen3 car and we need to keep unlocking more performance. However we remain extremely optimistic, and we are going to push to turn things around come this Saturday’.

Jean-Eric Vergne, Formula E Champion in 2018 and 2019

‘It’s our first time here, with this amazing background and a completely new track, so it is going to be intense. I feel fully prepared for this challenging track, and going top speed at full power to reach close to 250kph, with turns 12 and 13 some of the fastest corners on the calendar this season. Our package showed its pace in Hyderabad, and I really can’t wait to jump back in my car and push it to the limits to take to the podium again!’
