DS PENSKE celebrates a double points finish in today’s Monaco E-Prix with a remarkable recovery from the back of the grid with heroic drives from Jean Eric Vergne crossing the finish line in 7th place and Stoffel Vandoorne in 9th place.

With a single-day of track running, the DS E TENSE FE23 delivered a strong practice and qualifying sessions performance. However, following a penalty received in qualifying for tyre pressure infringement, all our lap times were deleted and we started from P21 and P22.

In the race, both the drivers put themselves in the hunt with strong driving and sharp strategy, they made up 27 places between them to finish with both DS PENSKE cars in the points. Reigning champion Stoffel Vandoorne’s fight today was unbelievable, the Belgian driver made the highest number of overtakes around the streets of Monaco.

The team looks forward to returning to Jakarta for Round 10 and 11 on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June, 2023, for the opportunity to fight for some victories not once – but twice.

I can sum up today with the old adage: “its not where you start, its where you finish.” And JEV and Stoffel delivered putting in great drives to get both cars in the points. Regardless, we need to get back on form and do better in qualifying as we know we can put our cars up front. I’m looking forward to Jakarta where the aim is to be back on the podium.’

 Jean-Eric Vergne, Formula E Champion in 2018 and 2019

‘We saved the day with that race! Obviously with starting last – especially in Monaco – it was always going to be difficult to score points, but I think we’ve managed a very good recovery and a very good race. It’s just a shame about the qualifying and the issue that we had. If we want to fight for the championship this year we can’t afford to make this kind of mistake. But, we learn, we move forward, and the car was good today so we keep pushing.

Stoffel Vandoorne, reigning Formula E world champion

‘Difficult day for us, but it’s still good to get away with a couple of points. The day started quite well with some strong pace in the practice session. I felt quite confident in the car, and it felt like we had good pace. Then it all kind of when wrong in qualifying, where unfortunately both of our cars got disqualified with a tyre pressure issue. This made our lives quite hard; we were maybe not super competitive, but we had a good chance to be in the top ten, and it would have been a bit of an easier race. But we maximized the race performance and came back from the back of the grid to P9. Not everything was perfect with the attack modes, but to take home a couple of points when it was a tough day was good.
