Sanya, China – The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship heads to China this weekend for the Sanya E-Prix, Round 11 of Season 12 and the first stop of the championship’s Asian swing. DS PENSKE arrives in Hainan determined to build on recent momentum and fight for top positions in what promises to be one of the season’s most unpredictable races this Saturday 20th June at 3:05pm local time.
The race takes place on the Haitang Bay Street Circuit, a 2.520 km layout featuring 12 turns and a long high-speed stretch that places a premium on energy management, braking precision and strategic execution. The combination of technical corners and fast acceleration zones is expected to create numerous overtaking opportunities throughout the race.
However, Sanya’s challenge extends far beyond the circuit itself. The tropical venue is renowned for its extreme heat and humidity, conditions that test both driver endurance and car performance. With stormy weather forecast for Saturday, teams are preparing for a potentially unpredictable and dramatic race day.
After encouraging performances in recent rounds, DS PENSKE’s focus in Sanya is clear: execute a clean and strategic race to bring both DS E-TENSE FE25 cars into contention for a top result.
The team’s drivers, Maximilian Günther and Taylor Barnard, will need to combine speed, efficiency and racecraft on a circuit where energy management, Attack Mode deployment and rapidly changing weather conditions could prove decisive.
Should the forecasted storms arrive, the Sanya E-Prix could become one of the season’s most eventful races. Sudden downpours and slippery street surfaces may open the door to bold strategy calls, safety-car interventions and dramatic position changes.
Don’t miss the action – the race will start at 3:05pm local time this Saturday 20 June, 2026.
Maximilian Günther – DS PENSKE driver
‘Great to be back in Sanya. The circuit offers a nice variety of corner types, ranging from fast and flowing sections to slower corners with heavy braking zones at the end of long straights, which should create some good overtaking opportunities. Energy management will be crucial and with the expected temperatures, keeping both tyre and car temperatures under control will be equally important. We’ve prepared well and are looking forward to putting together the best possible weekend as we begin the Asian leg of the season.’
Taylor Barnard – DS PENSKE Driver
‘I’m looking forward to racing in Sanya, it is a stunning place to race and a great way to start the Asian leg of the season. The conditions look like they are going to keep everyone on their toes, which usually leads to exciting racing. We need to be ready for anything! I am feeling confident, the team has been working really hard and we are ready to push for a strong result.’
